Whatever high-country pursuits you wish to enjoy, Camp Shelly and the scenic Lake Tahoe area have it all:

  • Looking for some high country adventure? You can take a hike in the breathtaking Desolation Wilderness, raft down the Truckee River or bike through the forest on paved paths or rugged mountain trails. Perhaps you’d rather take a guided horseback ride, or go boating, kayaking or water skiing on the crystal clear waters of Lake Tahoe. You can also try your luck at fishing in the area’s numerous lakes, creeks and rivers.

  • Want a more urban adventure? World-class shopping and excellent restaurants are only minutes away, and the entertainment capital at Stateline can be reached in less than 30 minutes.

  • Hoping to unwind? Maybe you’ll choose to simply relax in the great outdoors, enjoy an old-fashioned campfire or head down to the lake for a day of swimming and relaxing at the beach.

Camp Shelly is a community campground where memories are made and friendships are forged. If you haven’t been to Camp Shelly before, this is the year you should take advantage of the Park District’s hidden gem in the breathtakingly beautiful Lake Tahoe wilderness.

About the Campground
Camp Shelly is a forested, 25-site campground located a few miles outside of the town of South Lake Tahoe.

Community faucets with potable water are located throughout the campground.

All facilities and equipment are available to our campers on a first-come, first-served basis at no additional charge. Kids love riding their bicycles around the campground loop and exploring the natural features of the campground.

The campground is staffed by Park District rangers who are on duty daily to assist you and to maintain the camp. Special programs may be offered, usually on weekends, including campfire programs, ice cream socials, volleyball games, night hikes and astronomy programs.
