Hoot Owl
Night hike for groups
Program Description
This program lasts 11⁄2 to 2 hours and begins with a ranger-led introduction to nocturnal animals and adaptations of nighttime critters, that is followed by an easy hike of 1 to 11⁄2 miles. We will make stops along the way to do a few activities. Each ranger has their own special repertoire of fun and informative activities, so no two outings are exactly the same. This program is conducted, literally, “in the dark.” Everyone is expected to use their night vision during the program, so please leave your flashlights at home.
Hoot Owl programs are conducted from March through November, weather permitting. No programs are scheduled in December, January, or February. Each program is timed to start a little before sunset, so the actual program starting time varies by time of year.
Program Location
While Hoot Owl programs are conducted in Sycamore Grove Park, they do occur at a couple of different locations. Your program location will be verified when you register.
Trails used during Hoot Owl hikes are primarily composed of packed dirt. Depending on the location your group is assigned, you may need to hike through a rocky dry creek bed, along narrow trails or over small hills. If someone in your group has mobility limitations please call the ranger office at (925) 960-2400, and we will make arrangements for your program to occur on a paved path.
Program Fee
Livermore groups - $120.
Non-Livermore groups- $160.
Fee is per group. Group size is limited to 20. Since this is a group tour there will be no refunds.
**PLEASE NOTE** GROUP SIZE FOR THIS PROGRAM IS LIMITED TO 20.
This includes scouts, parents, siblings, friends – everyone. A hike WILL NOT proceed with more than 20 participants. This program is conducted after normal operational hours of Sycamore Grove Park. No one is allowed to remain in the parking lot to wait for the group to return.
