General Information
Whether you have never climbed before or you are an experienced outdoor enthusiast, Valley Rock Climbing Gym offers a wide range of climbing for all ages. Operated by Livermore Area Recreation and Park District, Valley Rock offers 2,500 square feet of climbing up 30-foot walls, a bouldering cave and two of the best indoor cracks in the Bay Area. Originally opened in 1995 and privately operated as Sunrise Rock Gym, LARPD took over operations in 2007.

About climbing
Climbing provides challenges for men, women and children of all ages, all body types and all skill levels. It builds hand-eye coordination, flexibility, balance, body movement, cardio, self-esteem, self-confidence and teamwork. It’s fun, as well as safe. But don’t take our word for it, come and try climbing for yourself.

Know before you go
Waivers - All participants must sign a waiver.
Youth Waivers - Participants under 18 must have a waiver signed by a parent or legal guardian; and if at the gym without a responsible adult present, must have a medical form on file.

Belaying - Climbing to the top of the wall requires someone to belay (hold the other end of the rope for you). If you don't have someone to belay for you, try coming in on one of our theme nights when you are likely to find other climbers willing to help you get started, or try a sample climb (two times up the wall with a staff person belaying for you), or sign up for a class. You can also boulder (climb closer to the ground) which doesn't require a rope.

Climbing Gym Walk-in

Adults, teens, kids, tots, whatever your age we have a fun and challenging climb waiting for you. Children as young as three years old scale the walls of our indoor gym.  Though climbing may look and feel like a risky sport; it is a safe indoor activity. You may climb close to the ground or partner up and take a belay lesson to enjoy the entire facility.  Belay lessons take twenty minutes and can be taught at any time.
